Psychiatric Patient Commits Suicide In Calabar

A mentally unstable person, Joel Uduak, has committed suicide by hanging himself at the Federal Psychiatric Hospital in Calabar, Cross River State.
The incident, which happened around 2am on Sunday, allegedly took the medical staff by surprise as the hospital had ensured that its structures were built to make suicide impossible.
A source, who craved anonymity, said Uduak quietly left his room to commit suicide without suspicion from his roommates.

The presidency has reacted to the statements made by an opposition leader, Nuhu Ribadu, in Kaduna on Sunday, claiming the latter is blinded by ambition.
Mr. Ribadu, the presidential candidate of the Action Congress of Nigeria in 2011, had on Saturday, while addressing students of the Ahmadu Bello University, described President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration as “a sinking ship.”
In its reaction, the presidency in a statement by Reuben Abati, said the Jonathan administration will not be distracted from the implementation of the agenda for national transformation by the “falsehoods and vituperations of Ribadu and his new friends.”

A 20-year old man, Monday Akanni, who was arrested in Mushin, Lagos State, southwest Nigeria, has confessed in court that he had no other business except robbing people of their belongings in Lagos and its environs.
Akanni, who hails from Badagary and lives at 12, Ashawokun Street, Olosa, Mushin,  pleaded guilty to the charge of felony to wit, robbery and attempted robbery before Ijeshatedo Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
Also a locally made pistol which he used for armed robbery operations was recovered from him and tendered as exhibit before the court.

Emir of Daura Alhaji Faruk Umar Faruk says the unknown gunmen that attacked four banks and two police stations in Daura town a few weeks ago succeeded in the operation because there were no adequate security personnel in the town.

“The attackers came, surveyed Daura and noticed that there are no adequate police, soldiers and other security personnel in the community. So they came and attacked four banks and two police stations because they knew there were no security personnel and so nobody could repel their attack”, he said.
